New York AREA
(Affordable Reliable Energy Alliance)

In the wake of the August 2003 New York blackout, Butler Associates was brought on by New York AREA to create marketing strategies for this then newly created statewide “Energy Chamber of Commerce.”  14 years later, Butler Associates continues to craft tactics and strategies that have continually kept the organization on the front lines of advocacy and our client’s issues and coalition leadership in the public eye.

For this organization, we have initiated and led highly a successful and continuing speaker-series and energy forums that have attracted speakers that include major academics, government, business, labor and environmental leaders.

Our team conceptualized a regular weekly radio series called New York Energy Minute that for several years was broadcast on 50,000 watt stations from New York City, to the Hudson Valley, to the state capitol in Albany. Among the programs New York Energy Minute aired on was Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s weekly radio show on WOR-AM (710) in the New York City media market. The messaging was tailored to the city’s and state’s elected decision makers.

After that success we went one-step further to create the video interview series, the New York Energy Moment, which is broadcast and promoted via web sites and a variety of social media pipelines.   The series can be found here

Our team writes, edits, and has published newsletters distributed to key elected officials, labor leaders, chamber leaders and key organizations across the state.

Butler Associates conceived of and ghostwrites a “sponsored editorial series” published throughout the year in the leading political insider newspaper, City & State. Authors of the prominent series have included: the Obama Administration’s Top Trade Ambassador, Administrator of the federal EPA, a Greenpeace co-founder, Presidents of groups including the Independent Power Producers of New York, New York State AFL-CIO, National Federation of Independent Business, labor and chamber of commerce leaders, along with elected officials speaking on vital in-state energy topics.

Among other tactics, Butler Associates has operated very successful online and social marketing visibility campaigns for continued branding and messaging.  The organization has grown from a dozen members at its founding in 2003 to over 125 supporting members in 2017.
